It is the most beautiful, but the heaviest and most dangerous wave in the world. This miracle of nature is situated on the south coast of Tahiti, French Polynesia. A perfect elbow-shaped reef break that holds any size swell, thus creating some of the largest pristine tubes on the planet. This wave breaks from March to October with the arrival of the southerly swells generated in the South Pacific region above Antarctica. This photo was taken on a momentous day, 6th July 2001, during one of the largest swells of the decade.
