This shot, taken in May 2005, shows Malik Joyeux riding one of the largest waves of the year. When I asked Malik which photo he wanted me to publish in my poster collection, he chose this shot. He was proud of this ride. For him, it was one of the most critical situations he had been in. He liked it because of the sheer size of the wave and the moody colours. He actually thought it to be bigger than his 2003 wave. Malik tragically died surfing Pipeline in Hawaii in December 2005. Proceeds will go to the Joyeux family.
